Holy shit, was just coming to ask people to talk me out of starting an Ice Trap Raider and pray the Temple of Atzoatl changes are impactful re: uniques/vials. Probably going to be my starter (fuck me). I also threw together an Ice Trap Raider, which is a bit scuffed but gets a ton of defensive layers, utitility and stats from the tree so I don't have to pay a lot of attention to gear choices. Probably also depends on whether I can fit another aura if I use Life Tap. PoB is not up to date with the new gems so there is no telling how much of a damage loss it is. And yeah, I would consider Life Tap as well, especially with the new Vitality Extraction cluster I just path by. If you are one-shotting during mapping anyways and maim the boss via totems, then it's still more damage than Fortify when it matters or am I missing something. I threw together a Champion VGS build yesterday and PoB tells me Maim does more damage than Fortify if the enemy is maimed. not sure how much of a loss in damage that is though In any case I'm going Slayer so decision is easy for me xD - the Lifetap support gem isn't too bad for early game mana management. For clearing, the extra upfront damage is better than maim since you are one shotting, and for bossing you should always put down your totem, so maim should be online The fortify gem gives a decent amount of extra damage over the maim gem. if you find that unreliable, honestly going Fortify ascendency node + Fortify Support is better for overall damage.
